Most soldiers won't write about their experiences during the war - and for good reason, but at the request of his daughters, Jack began to pen his memories. His stories will make you laugh, want to cry, be frightened, but always fill you with the patriotism of what American soldiers gave up to give us our freedom.
Opening with the news of the bombing of Pearl Harbor while he was studying in his dorm room, through his training to become an officer, fighting on the front lines, being wounded, liberating Dachau, and on through the Occupation, Jack takes us with him as he navigates his time as a Lieutenant for the 42nd Rainbow Division in WWII.
If you can imagine, Jack tells some of the humorous times he had with his fellow soldiers - like the time a GI dressed up as a woman and cajoled an unsuspecting Commander into a very embarrassing position or the time he and his fellow GIs crawled on their bellies to steal cantaloupes! So, yes, the book has funny stories as well as many touching and frightening ones.
"I enjoy reading WW II historical stories about service men who fought in this war. This book is the best one to date telling the story of a young Texas A&M student who signed up to fight for his country. The book is an easy read recounting his experiences in a very personal manner. I highly recommend this enlightening book." BobMac on Amazon

My name is Celia Westbrook Thrash, daughter of Lt. Jack Westbrook. At bedtime, as a young child, Dad would tuck-in my two sisters and I and then tell us his memories of his time in WWII. Yep, that's right. Bedtime stories! Of course, he doctored them up for our young ears, but regardless we grew up loving all of his memories, and so, we persuaded him to write them down for future generations. And that he did. He spent years typing on a typewriter and then onto this new device called a "computer" until he produced a black 3-inch, 3-ring binder full of rich and detailed stories with priceless images and recollections that should never be lost.
I'm ashamed to tell you the truth, that black binder sat in my home library for decades until Covid hit and a nation was sequestered to their home. It was only then that I picked up that binder and began to edit Dad's stories. Now, don't get me wrong, every detail is dad's written word, I just doctored up a few lines, added a bit, and edited out details that I didn't think would hold your attention.
So, this leads us to the title - Code Name: Baker Catcher. What in the world does that mean? Well, my friends, you are just going to have to read the book to find out! Enjoy!
